Care Of The Eyes

1. Put 1 drop of hexane-free/cold-pressed “Castor Oil” into each eye before sleep, sitting on the edge of the bed. Turn off the light, and go to sleep. This is soothing to dry or inflamed eyes.

2. Pour ˝ cup boiling water over ˝ tsp. “Triphala” powder. Cover and let steep till room temp. Strain well through a new paper or cloth coffee filter. Make sure that no particles of trifala are in the eye wash water. Using an eye-cup (available at any pharmacy) rinse the eyes with this cool liquid. This rinse purifies the mucous membranes around the eyes, and is soothing.

3. With clean hands, touch the many points around the eyes: under the supra orbital arch and on to of the infra-orbital arch. These are the bones above and below the eyes. Press on the exhale, move along on the inhale.

4. Touch the reflex points for the eyes on the hands, feet, and ears and the points at the corners of the eyes. Refer to the foot and ear charts.

5. Eye exercises: SLOWLY look to the extreme left, the extreme right – 5X. Look up (into the forehead) and down (into the cheeks) Close the eyes tightly/ then open them wide – 5X. Do each exercise 5 X. At the end of these exercises, rub the palms of your hands together briskly (long enough to generate some heat) and cup the hands over the eyes for a minute or so. Completely relax your eyes. Breathe belly breaths. Imagine your love and healing energy coming out of the palms of your hands into your eyes.

6. Now for the herbs: Have 2 tablets, 3X/day of Ming Mu Formula (by Golden Flower Chinese Herbs). Empty Stomach is best. Wait 20 minutes or more to eat. And/or have up to 60 drops, 2 – 3X daily of Insight Compound (by Herbalist and Alchemist) in warm water. Wait 20 minutes to eat. Both of these formulas pull heat of the eye, and benefit vision.

7. The eyes are the sense organ ruled by the liver and fire element, hence they are prone to diseases of heat and impurities. Be pro-active regarding your liver health. Eat steamed or saute’ed greens regularly. Avoid coffee/tea/pop/alcoholic beverages. Replace anger with kindness as a spiritual practice.

8. When reading, looking at a monitor, or doing any close work, take breaks and enjoy a distant view out the window.

9. Cover the left eye with the left palm, extend the right hand, palm facing you, and pick a tree (or another object on the horizon) and slowly focus on that object/tree, then palm, then nose, and back to the tree, palm, nose, tree, palm, etc. many times. Relax. Switch sides. Vary the pattern. Sometimes focus on the nose, palm, tree, nose, palm, tree, etc. This practice strengthens the small muscles inside the eye, especially around the lens.
