Guidelines for Eating
Always give thanks. Do this in whatever way is meaningful to you.
Eat sitting down.
Face east when possible (to honor the Sun – the source of our digestive fire).
Chew slowly.
Eat foods that balance your constitutional type.
Eat locally grown foods as much as possible.
Eat organically grown foods whenever possible.
Eat some of the foods your ancestors ate. (What were their staples?)
Avoid iced/cold beverages. (98.6 degrees minus 40 degrees equals 58.6 degrees of energy lost when too much iced/cold food/beverage is consumed regularly)
Love yourself and those you live with enough to get really comfortable in your kitchen and learn how to cook a few things really well.
Eat lightly one day each week.
Eat a small breakfast, bigger lunch, smaller dinner. When I was growing up, the large meal of the day was definitely dinner. Eating a large meal at the end of the day puts a strain on the digestive organs at a time when their energy is waning. So really strive to eat a smaller dinner.
Light a candle at the table to honor digestive fire (enzymes/acids/energy) both inside and out.
Don’t have heavy conversation during a meal. Keep it light.
